Lin '10 Helps Rockets Notch Impressive Win

Published by Juliet Spies-Gans on December 23, 2012 at 11:01PM

Coming into Saturday night’s game, the Memphis Grizzles had not won in Houston in over six and a half years. Largely due to an offensive onslaught from Jeremy Lin ’10 and teammate James Harden, the Rockets continued their winning ways by notching their third straight victory in blowout fashion.

Houston totaled 32 assists on the night, its season-high, 11 of which were contributed by Lin. The Harvard alum also put up 15 points and six boards, earning an efficiency rating of +18 in the 121-96 win.

Chambers Earns Spot on Bob Cousy Award Watchlist

Published by Scott A. Sherman on December 21, 2012 at 11:14PM

Siyani Chambers’ rookie season keeps on getting better.

On Thursday, the freshman was named a candidate for the prestigious Bob Cousy Award, given annually to the best point guard in the country, by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

Chambers is one of just four freshman to be nominated for the honor, including Oklahoma State’s Marcus Smart, who entered the season as the nation’s top guard prospect, according to ESPN.

Chambers, in contrast, was ranked the 45th-best incoming floor general by ESPN. But he has not played that way thus far this year.

Through nine games, the freshman has emerged as the Crimson’s second leading scorer, averaging 12.6 points per contest while shooting nearly 50 percent from behind the arc. Chambers also leads the Ancient Eight with 5.1 assists per game and a 94.4 percent free-throw percentage; the latter number is fifth-best in the country.

"What can you say about Siyani?" Crimson coach Tommy Amaker said last Tuesday. "He's been the heart and soul for us this year."

Jeremy Lin '10 Returns to New York

Published by Scott A. Sherman on December 18, 2012 at 11:01PM

As soon as Jeremy Lin ’10 stepped back on the court at Madison Square Garden Monday night, the magic was almost immediately back.

In his return to the arena that catapulted him from benchwarmer to celebrity less than a year ago, Lin had 22 points and eight assists to help his Rockets hand the Knicks their first home loss this season.

The 22 points were the second-highest total of the season for Lin, who has struggled thus far this year to adjust to playing with fellow newcomer and ball-dominant guard James Harden. Asked to assess his 2012 season before the game, Lin's response was, "terrible."

But on Monday night, he and Harden meshed together well, with the latter registering 28 points and 10 rebounds to help get the Rockets (12-12) back to .500 with a 109-96 victory.

After receiving a rousing applause from the home crowd—with some even giving him a standing ovation—Lin went to work early, scoring the Rockets’ first points on a layup and hitting four of his first five shots for a total of eight first-quarter points.

"Stay aggressive, be really aggressive—that was my mindset coming in," Lin said. "Have fun and let everything fall where it may."
