Jeremy Lin '10 was recently named "Person of the Week" by ABC News.

Inherently, not many people can say that they have been the “Person of the Week.” Well, that is officially one more thing that Jeremy Lin ’10 can cross off of his to-do list.

On this week’s edition of ABC News’ segment of “Person of the Week”, Lin nabbed the honor, finishing off a week filled with much other recognition and praise from the basketball world and beyond. This award has previously gone to a variety of personnel, including ex-prisoner of war, Jessica Lynch, as well as a group that has reunited several Holocaust victims and their US veteran rescuers, among others.

ABC News states that Lin, on Friday, was the most searched person and name on the internet, and, after discussing his economic degree, quips, “the odds of a turnaround like this, any econ major can tell you, are slim to none.”

The program continued by emphasizing Lin’s background and, eventually, progressed to likening his numbers to those of Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant—two of the most prolific scorers in NBA history. This comparison was quite a jump from the clip shown prior to that assertion, where Lin admits that he, only two weeks ago, was the twelfth to fifteenth man on the New York Knicks roster.

Perhaps the honor is accurately summed up by ABC News’ opening pun which declared that Lin’s fans have been “stunned by his sudden stardom, a fast break for this point guard who for a long time looked like he was going no where fast.” And that is truly what it has been—a fast break from start to finish, beginning at the end of the bench and ending here, as the Person of the Week.
