The Massachusetts State Police are searching for an individual in the Charles River after receiving a report of abandoned shoes and clothing shortly before 6 p.m. Saturday.

The search was suspended late Saturday night but “is expected to resume Sunday morning,” according to a statement from MSP spokesperson Tim McGuirk.

The department responded to the report near 99 Memorial Drive Saturday evening. McGuirk wrote that the individual’s items were found “on the sidewalk adjacent to the Charles River in Cambridge.”

Members of the State Police Troop H — which covers the Metro Boston area — searched alongside the Cambridge Fire Department and the MSP's Underwater Rescue Team, Marine Unit, and Air Wing until shortly after 10 p.m. In a post on X, the Cambridge Fire Department described the effort as a “water search.”

The police were unable to find the individual. As of McGuirk’s Saturday night statement, the MSP planned to continue its search Sunday morning.

Cambridge police spokesperson Robert Goulston did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Saturday evening.
