POLICE LOG
May 4:
7:12 a.m.: Harvard University Police Department (HUPD) officers were dispatched to a report of a fire outside of the Hoffman Lab Geology. Upon arrival, they saw the Cambridge Fire Department extinguishing a minor fire started in the bushes in front of the building. It was determined the cause was likely a discarded cigarette.
9:54 p.m.: Officers were dispatched to Longwood Ave. in order to assist Boston Police Department counterparts. The reporting party stated they had entered a taxi who had insisted the destination was out of his regular range and would require further charges. The driver reportedly began yelling and refused to stop the cab. He finally stopped at the destination and the reporting party exited the cab without incident.
May 5:
2:07 p.m.: Officers were dispatched to Tuchman Hall D to take report of an assault. The reporting party said they got into an argument with an individual and that they were slapped on the wrist and struck in the face with a plastic cup.
May 6:
2:37 p.m.: Officers responded to a report of a verbal altercation between two individuals. The reporting person stated that someone they did not want to see had followed them after repeated efforts to break off contact and had grabbed the individual’s bag and wrist. Officers arrested Xuefeng Sue, age 34, of Boston and issued a trespass warning for all Harvard property.
7:55 p.m.: Officers reported to Quincy House A in response to an individual wielding a knife and issuing threats. The man, Ronald Vick of Brighton. was placed under arrest when caught in Peabody Terrace, and was charged with four counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and breaking and entering with intent to commit a felony. He was issued a trespass warning for all Harvard property.
May 9:
7:28 a.m.: HUPD dispatched officers to the Harvard Medical School’s garage to take note of property damage. An individual, while backing up their car, struck the overhead sprinkler system causing it to turn on. Then, attempting to avoid the water, the person struck a security camera. The individual was run for warrants with negative result and sent on their way.
May 12:
6:05 a.m.: Officers were dispatched to 173 Pleasant St. to a report of an assault. An individual choked the reporting party and wrote on their face with a marker. The attacking individual was found to be intoxicated and upon arrival of the officers, became aggressive, began yelling, and tried to strike one of them. Stephen Wheeler, 41, of Cambridge, was placed under arrest and charged with assault and battery, and domestic abuse.
May 15:
4:21 p.m.: HUPD responded to a report of a car accident at the 1 Western Ave. garage. Upon arrival, it was determined the reporting party had followed another car into the parking lot and a barrier rose out of the ground, striking the front undercarriage of the car, and lifting it off the ground. Parking services lowered the barrier and released the car.
May 16:
9:46 a.m.: Officers were dispatched to Aldrich Hall in response to a report of a suspicious package in the hallway. They located a plastic bag that contained a camouflage tee-shirt, a gas mask, and a hand grenade. Upon further inspection, it was found that the grenade was hollowed out and belonged to an individual who had received the objects as a gift. He was sent on his way without further incident.
May 18:
4:13 p.m.: Officers responded to a report that an unwanted individual was sitting at a computer terminal in Austin Hall. They located the individual and conducted a field interview. Mark Mohr, 49, of Springfield, was placed under arrest and was charged with trespassing.
May 21:
11:28 p.m.: HUPD responded to a report of a suspicious individual in Adams House B. A field interview was conducted and James Ruma, 37, of Medford, was placed under arrest and charged with trespassing.
May 22:
1:07 a.m.: Officers were dispatched to a report from an individual who had witnessed a robbery. Upon arrival, another individual approached the officer stating they were resting in their car when an unidentified suspect opened the passenger door, grabbed their bag, and fled the scene. The Cambridge Police Department took over the investigation.
11:52 p.m.: HUPD officers responded to a complaint that one of a group of individuals on the steps of Widener Library was urinating on the building. The three individuals were sent on their way.
May 23:
9:26 a.m.: Officers observed an individual acting suspiciously at the corner of Brattle and Mason Streets. They conducted a field interview and ran the individual for outstanding warrants. Mark Mohr, already arrested on May 18 for trespassing, was placed under arrest and charged with warrant service.
May 24:
3:38 p.m.: HUPD responded to a report of vandalism on the John Harvard Statue. Upon arrival, they noted that the statue was covered in shaving cream.
May 25:
2:14 p.m.: Officers observed an individual exit Au Bon Pain, followed by two individuals who claimed he had left without paying for an item. The situation was settled with the manager, and the person was run for outstanding warrants with positive result and placed under arrest. Nahom Getaneh, 17, of Boston, was placed under arrest.
May 28:
12:21 a.m.: Officers were dispatched to the Harvard Lampoon—a semi-
secret Sorrento Square social organization that used to occasionally publish a so-called humor magazine. They responded to a report of loud noises coming from the building and urged the occupants to quiet down.
May 30:
2:19 a.m.: HUPD was dispatched to Mt. Auburn Street, arrived and spoke with an individual who observed the incident take place. The individual stated that they saw three unknown people exit a car and begin arguing with a fourth party. One of the three began punching the victim of the altercation who was unable to give any information and was transported to the hospital for medical evaluation.
5:55 p.m.: Officers observed an individual throw a cup of water at a moving vehicle on Mass Ave. The individual became belligerent and started yelling when the officers approached him. He then charged at them. Alfred Cox, 47 was placed under arrest and charged with disorderly conduct.
June 1:
10:35 a.m.: HUPD responded to a report of a chemical spill in the Currier House dining hall. The individuals responded that, while backing their truck out of the loading dock, the undercarriage of the vehicle struck a speed bump and caused a gas leak. The appropriate authorities arrived on scene to control the spill and to tow the truck to another location.
June 2:
11:51 p.m.: Officers heard yelling at the Physical Resources Center and observed two individuals sitting at a picnic table drinking. They conducted a field interview and ran the individuals for warrants with negative result. They were issued a trespass warning for all Harvard property.
June 3:
8:44 p.m.: Officers were dispatched to Leverett House C in response to a report that a suspicious individual had piggybacked into the building. A search of the area yielded negative results.
