SPORTS BRIEF: After forty minutes of brutal play, Women’s Lacrosse match called

The Harvard women’s lacrosse (2-6, 0-1 Ivy) team spent 40 brutal minutes battling both BU (4-4, 1-0 AE) and 20 mph winds yesterday at Nickerson Field before the game was called due to snow.

When the game was cancelled with 5:40 remaining in the first half, the Terriers led the Crimson 10-4, with Harvard’s Sarah Flood scoring the first goal, and the Terriers’ Erica Baumgartner following up thirty seconds later for BU.

Undeterred by the sleet and snow, Flood doubled up with a second goal at 20:52, assisted by junior attacker Caroline Simmons.

A minute and a half later, junior Tara Schoen’s free position shot escaped BU goalie Jenna Golden’s grasp for Harvard’s third score of the game.

With 5:40 remaining, Martin scored to put BU up 10-4, the last play before the game was cancelled.

The match will be replayed in its entirety on a date to be determined.
