SCREENSHOTS: "Man of the Year"

Annoyed with the flagrant paper-wasting tactics of UC campaigns? Feel like exiting the Science Center has turned into a maze which you must navigate your way in and out of the crowd to avoid groups of shouting supporters? Bothered by candidates knocking on your door in the midst of midterm studying?

If you need a break from the UC elections, check out “Man of the Year,” a dark comedy that explores what happens when a political satirist runs for the presidency as a joke—and wins. Starring Robin Williams, the film features notable actors, including Christopher Walken, who plays Williams’s campaign manager, and Laura Linney, who works for a corrupt electronic voting machine company. The movie shows how innovative dark horse candidates have to be to catch the public’s eye. (Remind anyone of Martel-Zimmerman’s plan to abolish parliamentary procedures at UC meetings?)

For those of legal age, sit back, relax, and put on your patriotic best. You’ve

survived the bulk of the campaign week: you deserve it.

TAKE A SHOT…

1. If Robin Williams’s campaign reminds you of Stephen Colbert’s short bid for the presidency.

2. Every time Williams makes a poor attempt at a joke about being single.

3. Every time Robin Williams wears a George Washington-esque wig.

4. If you feel awkward for Williams after Linney breaks the news on Thanksgiving that he never should have won. Worst Thanksgiving ever.

5. Every time Laura Linney says “double b’s, double g’s, double l’s,” which summarizes the machine’s computer flaws. Computer errors would never be that simple.

6. When TIME Magazine crowns Robin Williams’s character “Man of the Year.” Hey, it’s less of a cop-out than 2006’s “You” cover.
