Cross country and track standout Lindsey E. Scherf '08 has been suspended for one year, according to the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA).

Scherf's one-year period of ineligibility began on Sept. 21, when she was provisionally suspended, a USADA statement issued last Friday said.

The suspension stems from an incident on July 1, following the Gold Coast Marathon in Brisbane, Australia.

According to USADA, Scherf refused to participate in a drug test after the race, in which she finished second, citing confusion about the need for a therapeutic-use exemption for her asthma medication.

USA Track and Field is carrying out the penalty.

Scherf, a four-time All-American and All-Ivy performer, has not run for the Crimson since competing in the Harvard-Yale-Princeton meet on Sept. 15.

Scherf, of Scarsdale, N.Y., is a psychology concentrator in Quincy House.
