Police Log

September 23

3:47 a.m.—Officers were dispatched to Strauss Hall B to respond to a report that an individual was yelling and banging on windows. Upon arrival, the officers spoke with and tried to identify the individual who was later transported to a medical facility.

September 24

10:18 a.m.—The Harvard University Police Department (HUPD) responded to a complaint that an individual at the Continuing Education Center had their pants down around their knees and was throwing mulch. Officers searched the surrounding area and found an individual who matched the description provided by the reporting party. They conducted a field interview and the individual was run for warrants with negative result.

September 26

9:45 p.m.—HUPD officers were dispatched to assist the Cambridge Police Department (CPD) in putting out a smoking trashcan. Upon arriving at the scene, they extinguished the smoke.

September 27

2:13 p.m.—Officers observed an individual known to them at JFK Park and conducted a field interview. They then ran the person for warrants with a positive result and placed Holly Leach, age 19, of Boston, under arrest for warrant service.



8:31 p.m.—Officers responded to a complaint that a suspicious individual was attending a course they were not registered for at the Continuing Education Center. A field interview was conducted and the individual was run for warrants, then sent on their way with a trespass warning for all University property.

September 28

1:06 p.m.—HUPD observed an individual yelling in front of 64 Louis Prang St. in Boston that there was a fire in the building. The officers noticed smoke coming from the second floor of the building and the Boston Police Department (BPD) and Boston Fire Department were called in to extinguish the fire.

September 29

5:33 p.m.—Officers were dispatched to Sever Hall to take a report of a stolen and unsecured hat valued at $75.

September 30

1:00 a.m.—HUPD responded to Cabot House C where the reporting party stated that upon arrival to their room, they noticed the door had been tampered with. Officers observed pry marks around the door, and when the individual tried opening it, the locking mechanism fell to the floor. The reporting party stated that nothing was missing from the room.



4:28 a.m.—An individual struck a police cruiser with a soda bottle from the window of a Cabot House C suite. Officers spoke to an occupant of the room who stated that they were sleeping and had no knowledge of the incident.

October 1

2:02 p.m.—Officers were dispatched to take a report of a suspicious individual at the Hemenway Gymnasium. They found the individual, who initially provided an identity card and was run for wants and warrants with negative result. In the process of placing him under arrest, however, he provided identification that contained his real name. Kevin J. O’Brien, age 33, of Attleboro, Mass., was then run for wants and warrants a second time with positive result. He was charged with trespassing, furnishing a false name, and was issued a trespass warning for all University property.

October 3

4:05 p.m.—HUPD responded to a report of hazardous conditions at the School of Public Health. The reporting party stated that a cylinder filled with oxygen had a broken cap, was highly flammable, and was in close proximity to a possible flame. The Boston Fire Department, the Boston Police Department, the Boston Police Hazardous Materials Response, and the Massachusetts D.E.P. all responded to the scene. The room was sprayed with water and the second floor of the building was closed overnight.
