A Heartbreak for Harnett’s

Gloria B. Ho

Harnett’s Homeopathy and Body Care on Brattle Street will close its doors at the end of the month, according to a sign posted on the store’s glass entrance.

The store features natural health and beauty products and homeopathic medicines, including vitamin and herbal remedies.

“It’s kind of nice to have natural ingredients in the center of town,” said Deborah Ruiz, who says she comes to Cambridge to shop “a lot.”

“Now I’ll have to look someplace else for that. It’s kind of disappointing.”

Yesterday, during the outdoor May Day Fair, a steady stream of pedestrians walked up to the door trying to enter the store. Instead, the locked door bore a sign that informed them of the store’s closing.

Until May 31, Harnett’s will have reduced hours. The store will be closed on Sundays, and it will close at 7 p.m. during the rest of the week—two hours earlier than before.

“We would like to thank all of our loyal customers for your continued support over the years,” the sign read.

“I found stuff here that I had never seen before, so I kept coming back,” said Devon Berkshire, a student at Cambridge’s American Repertory Theatre (ART), who was passing by. “It’s also a nice little store to go into.”

Ryan West, who is also a student at the ART said that the school encouraged the use of homeopathic products, as opposed to other medicines. He found those products at Harnett’s.

Store employees did not answer calls yesterday or Friday.
