Police Log

Laptop Theft

3:00 p.m.—A Harvard University Police Department (HUPD) officer was sent to the Spangler Center at 117 Western Ave. to take note of a stolen laptop last Thursday, March 2. The computer, an IBM ThinkPad, was valued at $2,000.

Holyoke Intruder

1:20 p.m.—Officers were dispatched to Holyoke Center last Friday, March 3, following reports concerning an individual who threatened to force his way into the building. The individual assured officers that he did not mean to cause any trouble and left.

Stolen Bike Reappears

4:26 p.m.—An individual in Dunster House, entryway A, whose bike had been stolen several months ago told police that he “just saw the bike” last Friday, March 3. But after speaking with the individual, the responding officer determined that there was no way to tell whether that bike belonged to him or her.

Persistent Skateboarders

12:31 p.m.—An officer arrived at 1 Western Ave. in Allston last Saturday, March 4, in response to a complaint regarding a crew of skateboarders in the area. Although the officer sent them on their way, police were dispatched to the same address to again handle a skateboarding complaint later that evening at 8:32 p.m.

Cafe Trespasser

6:33 p.m.—Officers conducted a field interview with an individual at Au Bon Pain who was reportedly an “unwanted guest” last Saturday, March 4. After ascertaining that there were no wants or warrants against the individual, officers sent them away with a no-trespass warning.

Urgent Shuttle Call

1:17 a.m.—Officers received a call last Sunday, March 5, from someone outside of Winthrop House who shouted to police that he or she needed to be picked up. After searching the shuttle bus stop to no avail, officers attempted to call the person back. Someone who claimed that he or she did not place the call but that they knew who did answered the phone. Police were again dispatched to the area in order to speak with either caller but could not find them.

Fireworks in the Yard

2:39 a.m.—Officers reported to Canaday Hall, entryway A, following a report that people were lighting fireworks behind the freshman dorm last Sunday, March 5. But they found no one upon arrival.

A Little Night Music

2:13 a.m.—An early morning pianist drew complaints from resident of Winthrop House, entryway H, last Monday, sending officers to the scene to investigate. Officers arrived and found no evidence of piano-playing.

Rainy Danger

12:52 p.m.—Officers were alerted to a suspicious package at the Longwood Medical Area last Monday. The suspicious package was deemed not suspicious upon police inspection. It contained an umbrella.

Fool-Around Night

1:23 a.m.—A group fight reportedly still in progress sent officers to Au Bon Pain last Tuesday. Police determined that the group was made up of all friends and that they were only fooling around.

Identity Theft

5:52 a.m.—Officers arrived at Lamont Library last Wednesday in response to reports of an early-morning library-goer who allegedly used another individual’s ID to get into the building. The responding officers were unable to find the individual upon arrival.

Jaywalking

8:32 a.m.—An officer spoke to an individual who was attempting to walk through the Cowperthwaite Street construction site near Leverett Towers. After refusing several times to comply with the officer’s orders and stay on the sidewalk, the individual changed direction and left.
