Fraser named to U.S. National Hockey Junior Team, will travel to Sweden

Jimmy Fraser’s winter break just got a little bit more interesting.

The sophomore forward has been named to the United States National Hockey Junior team, announced by USA Hockey on Tuesday night during a nationally televised game between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Minnesota Wild.

The team will travel to Leskand and Mora, Sweden from Dec. 26 to Jan. 5 to participate in the 2007 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship.

Fraser, who formerly served as captain of the United States Under-17 and Under-18 squads, now represents one of the top 22 players under age 20 in the nation, as judged by USA Hockey.

His selection was based on his performance in the National Junior Evaluation Camp, held in June in Lake Placid, N.Y., as well as his contributions during the opening stages of Harvard men’s hockey team’s campaign.

Through the first 12 games of the Crimson’s season, Fraser has posted five points, good enough for fourth on the team.
