When the Harvard women’s lacrosse team wrapped up its season with a 7-5 win over Brown, the work of coach Sarah Nelson ’94 was by no means finished. Indeed, as her team was finishing, Nelson was just getting started.
Nelson isn’t just a presence on the sidelines. In her own right, she’s a midfielder—one of the best in the world—and she was recently one of 16 players named to the U.S. World Cup Team.
This will be Nelson’s third straight appearance on the U.S. National Team in the World Cup, as she contributed to American victories in the 1997 World Cup, held in Edogawa, Japan, and the 2001 Cup at High Wycombe, England.
Nelson is a 1994 Harvard graduate, and during her tenure on the field for the Crimson she earned second-team All-America honors and was named first-team All-Ivy twice. Nelson’s 1991-94 Harvard teams finished 49-12 (22-2 Ivy), won three Ivy championships, appeared in the NCAA tournament all four years, and competed for the national title once, in 1992.
