Blustery conditions did little to temper the enthusiasm of Saturday’s Penn Relays. Attendance over the three-day track extravaganza totaled 108,809, and those on hand witnessed several stellar performances—although many Crimson athletes didn’t have their best showing.
In men’s competition, junior Kevin Duffy finished seventh with a toss of 58.00 meters in the javelin. In the triple jump, junior Lawrence Adjah finished fifth in the college men’s division with a jump of 14.84 meters, while senior Travis Hughes finished fourth in the ECAC division with a jump of 14.42 meters. Junior Samyr Laine also jumped, but in the championship division where scores were unavailable.
Representing Harvard in shot put was the duo of senior Kris Hinson, who placed fourth in the ECAC division with a throw of 16.39 meters, and junior Chris Ware, who placed 13th with a toss of 15.17 meters.
In the women’s competition, senior Eleanor Thompson finished fifth in the sixth heat of the women’s 400-meter hurdles in 1:03.4.
The 4x400 team of senior Vicky Henderson, freshman Dimma Kalu, senior Eleanor Thompson, and junior Stevie DeGroff took sixth with a time of 3:54.69 in the Heptagonal division behind Ivy rivals Penn, Cornell, Columbia, Brown, and Yale.
A full Crimson team looks to rally for a strong showing at the Heptagonal Championships at Columbia, May 7.
