The Harvard women’s squash team opened the 2005-06 season with a dominating win over Brown on Friday. The Crimson (1-0, 1-0 Ivy) rolled to a 9-0 victory over the Bears (0-1, 0-1 Ivy) in Providence, R.I.
Though the Crimson lost several veterans from up and down the ladder to graduation—including Stephanie Hendricks and co-captains Hilary Thorndike and No. 2 Lindsey Wilkins—Harvard looks to be well equipped to fill the gaps.
Freshman Lily Lorentzen, fresh off a run in the Squash U.S. Open tournament last month, cruised to an easy win over Brown’s Megan Cerullo at No. 1, 9-3, 9-0, 9-1.
Junior Kyla Grigg, last year’s No. 1, played at No. 2 and defeated Charlotte Steel 9-6, 9-3, 9-3.
Sophomore No. 4 Jennifer Blumberg and junior No. 9 Sarah Thorndike each had two 9-0 game-wins en route to 3-0 victories.
Junior No. 6 Lydia Williams came the closest to dropping a game, beating Jennifer Neff 9-2, 9-7, 9-2.
The Crimson’s next match will be against Dartmouth in Hanover, N.H. on Nov. 30.
