With a perfect season long since in the books, the Harvard football team continues to reap national recognition.

Sophomore tailback Clifton Dawson received two more first team All-America selections this week, this time by the preeminent authorities on I-AA football—The Sports Network and the Associated Press.

Senior wide receiver Brian Edwards joined Dawson as an AP All-American, earning third-team All-Purpose honors.

Columbia tight end Wade Fletcher earned a spot on the AP third team.

Dawson was the only Ivy Leaguer to make The Sports Network list.

Those awards foreshadowed Harvard’s most prestigious honor of the week. Yesterday, American Football Monthly named Harvard coach Tim Murphy National Coach of the Year.

If observers expected a dream season from the preternaturally talented Dawson, then they certainly got one. The Ontario native shattered single-season school rushing records with 1,302 yards and 17 touchdowns. On Nov. 6 against Columbia, he broke a 92-year-old school record for points in a season, with 96. He finished with 130.2 yards per game, a league-best total.

Edwards handled the lion’s share of special teams duties on top of his spot as Harvard’s featured receiver. He returned three punts for touchdowns—two after watching the ball bounce to him—and one kickoff for a touchdown.
