Jesse Jantzen and Max Meltzer Take First at Cortland Tourney

Wrestling co-captain No. 1 Jesse Jantzen and sophomore Max Meltzer both won their weight classes at the Cortland Open Wrestling Tournament at Lusk Field House at SUNY Cortland on Saturday. Jantzen took first at 157 lbs., while Meltzer won at 141.

Though the Crimson as a whole will open its season next weekend at the East Stroudsburg Invitational, six members of the squad got some work at Cortland, with freshman Brent Kakesako (125 lbs.), sophomore Mike Baria (141 lbs.), freshman Jonathan Spiker (165 lbs.) and junior Eddie Jones (174 lbs.) joining Jantzen and Meltzer.

Both Jantzen and Meltzer cruised through their brackets despite wrestling up a weight class.

Baria won his opening match before losing to Justin Lijo of Cornell. Baria then rolled off three victories in the consolation bracket before falling to Nick Dalicandro of Sacred Heart.

Jones also lost early, but won four consolation matches before losing to eventual fifth-place finisher Bryce Hasseman.
