A Paean to Old Jordan

Letter to the Editors

To the editors:

I write to take issue with the characterization by Assistant Dean of the College Thomas A. Dingman ’67 of the old Jordan halls as the “dog[s] of the housing system” (News, “Quad Updates with Renovations, Sept. 9), and to tell the story of a few brave Harvard men and their Jordan experience.

Three years ago, while a junior and resident of PfoHo, 12 close friends and I defected from the main house to live in Jordans J and K for a year. We enjoyed our own floor of enormous singles (I had a queen size bed and a couch in my room), and the Masters McCarthy were kind enough to provide a common room in the basement of Jordan for our use.

Jordan basement was the site of many a late-night—and pre-dinner—beer pong tournament and several kick-ass parties. My senior year spent in Jordan was truly the best time of my life and I was saddened to learn of its renovation.
