Man Falls Onto 'T' Track, Hurts Ankle

Subway traffic at the Harvard Square MBTA stop experienced temporary delays Sunday evening when a man fell onto the subway tracks, according to Cambridge Police Department (CPD) spokesperson Frank Pasquarello.

The individual had allegedly been shoplifting and fell onto the subway tracks around 6:30 p.m. after running to catch the train, Pasquarello said.

Emergency personnel transported the individual to the hospital with a broken ankle.

While Pasquarello would not release the individual’s identity since CPD did not make an arrest, he said CPD will file criminal complaints against the injured suspect.

The incident is the second this year on the MBTA tracks.

In April, a train operator discovered the body of a New Hampshire teenager on the tracks just outside the station, shutting down the station for several hours.

MBTA spokesperson Joe Pesaturo said the Mass. chief medical examiner ruled the cause of death “undetermined” last month after a five-month investigation failed to determine whether the death was a homicide or a suicide.

MBTA police have since closed their investigation.
