Senior defensive tackle R.D. Kern added another trophy to his mantelpiece yesterday afternoon by being named to the Verizon Academic All-American Second Team (University Division).
Kern, an economics concentrator, has also won a spot on the All-Ivy League First Team and was an All-New England selection. In addition, Kern won the Wolf Award as Harvard's top interior lineman. Starting all 10 games last season, Kern was the backbone behind the toughest defense against the rush in the league.
Kern made 52 tackles last year, which ranked him first among Harvard linemen. He also had four sacks and four tackles-for losses and forced one fumble.
The only Ivy League player to make the National University Division Team, Kern is the seventh Harvard player in school history to win the award.
