Core Office Finds Replacement Professor for "Bible"

In a move which may ease the plight of seniors trying to meet their last few Core requirements, the director of the Core program said Friday that Literature and Arts C-37, "The Bible and Its Interpreters" will be offered this spring.

The class had been originally scheduled to be given this spring, but was cancelled in late September due to the professor's health.

Literature and Arts A-66, "The Myth of America," which had also been scheduled for this spring, was cancelled in September due to its professor's medical condition.

Susan W. Lewis, director of the Core program, said that Gary Anderson would teach the course instead of Starr Professor of Classical, Modern Jewish and Hebrew Literature James L. Kugel.

Lewis described Anderson as "a young, tenured professor from the Divinity School." He could not be reached for comment.

Lewis said a replacement professor would not be found for "Myth of America," which is normally taught by Carsell Professor of English and American Literature and Language Sacvan Bercovitch.

"There's really no one else who could teach this class," she said.
