The Harvard men's and women's fencing squads, in their second meets of the season, continued their winning ways by easily overcoming Brandeis yesterday. The Harvard men's team posted an 18-9 victory, while the women won 20-7.

The men improved to 4-1 on the season. The Crimson's previous meet was the Northeast Fencing Conference Meet held at MIT on November 18th. Harvard fell to MIT, 15-12, but triumphed over UMass, UNH, and Tufts to open the season with a winning record.

Yesterday's win over Brandeis was a team effort, with all three squads contributing.

"The epee and sabre squads were instrumental in the win," said epee Captain Eugene Cha.

Cha and fellow co-captain Davin Chew highlighted the play of sophomore foil Thomas Weisman and sophomore epee Derek Lindblom as particularly noteworthy.

The Harvard women improved to 7-0 on the season with the win. Most of Harvard's wins have come in dominating fashion, with the Crimson tallying 20 points in six of its seven games. The play of an improved sabre squad was instrumental in the early success.

"Our sabre team has gotten much stronger and the foil squad has been very unstoppable," said epee captain Liz Aranow.

Both the fencing teams will be in action this Saturday for their first Ivy League matches of the year.

"We hope to carry our momentum into a tough match on Saturday against Columbia," Cha said.
