A homeless man was in serious condition yesterday after a Tuesday night stabbing on the sidewalk outside Store 24 in Harvard Square.
Early yesterday morning, Cambridge police arrested Tyrone Henderson, who was later charged with assault.
The stabbing, which occurred around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, ended a fight between Henderson and the victim, said Cambridge Police Spokesperson Frank D. Pasquarello.
After an argument Tuesday night, Henderson allegedly pulled a knife and cut the victim in the throat, Pasquarello said.
"He was bleeding quite profusely," Pasquarello said.
Rescuers treated the victim at the scene and rushed him to Boston's Beth Israel Medical Center.
Witnesses told police that Henderson had committed the crime and then fled the scene, Pasquarello said.
Detectives observed Henderson walking along Mass. Ave. near the Square around 3 a.m. yesterday, and arrested him.
Henderson, whose age is not known, is also homeless, Pasquarello said.
Henderson will be arraigned this week.
