Kacyvenski Named Finalist

Harvard senior linebacker Isaiah Kacyvenski was named a finalist yesterday for the 1999 Buck Buchanan Award, given annually to the best defensive player in Division I-AA.

There are 16 finalists for the award, which will be announced on Dec. 6 at Mickey Mantle's Restaurant in New York.

Kacyvenski is a four-year starter at Harvard who owns the school records for most tackles in a game (20), a season (112) and a career (372). Kacyvenski was the Ivy League Rookie of the Year in 1996 and is a two-time All-Ivy selection.

Barring an injury, Kacyvenski will become the first player in Harvard history to start all 40 games in his career.

The award is named after Buck Buchanan, a defensive star at Grambling State in the early 1960s. He played 13 years professionally for the Dallas Texans and Kansas City Chiefs.
