To the editors:
As a member of the Kappa Eta Chapter of the Sigma Chi Fraternity, I applaud your fair article on the fraternity's campus activities (News, Sept. 28).
Sigma Chi is an organization which attracts people of diverse backgrounds and interests and helps them to grow into men of strong character and ideals. At the same time, it is a group which has at its foundation a spirit of friendship and fun, characteristics which are beneficial to the Harvard community. In my experience, both men and women who have interacted with the fraternity and its members have come away with only the most positive sentiments.
It is time the College recognizes a campus organization which contributes a variety of services to the community and a wealth of leaders to the campus (former Undergraduate Council members, editors of The Crimson and the Advocate, a president of Perspective, leaders of the Phillips Brooks House Association, varsity athletes, a president of the Republican Club and prefects). Indeed, how many student clubs can claim such a diverse membership and such a ubiquitous, positive presence?
Thanks to The Crimson for a lucid and objective exploration of an organization which has inspired introspection and collegial comradery among many undergraduates and alumni.
