HSBSE Elects New Officers

Last Sunday, the Harvard Society of black Scientists and Engineer elected Oni J. Blackstock '99 as its president for next year.

"We hope to increase our membership by reaching out to incoming students," said Blackstock, who is a Crimson editor. "We want other people to be able to take over."

This is especially important because the HSBSE board next year is compromised almost wholly of rising seniors.

HSBSE, which currently has about 20 members, "serves as a place where black science majors can network with each other," Blackstock said. It also fosters academic excellence through study groups and an informal advising network, she said.

This year, HSBSE also participated in Black History Month of past placing table tents with profiles of past and present black scientists in dining halls.
