Women's Lacrosse Season Officially Over

As they would say in Wayne's World: De-nied.

The Harvard women's lacrosse team learned Monday that it failed in its bid to participate in the ECAC playoffs.

NCAAs are the national playoffs, and ECACs are the regional playoffs," said freshman Alli Harper. "Teams that don't bid for NCAAs bid for ECACs."

Harvard (7-7, 3-4 Ivy) was on the bubble and hoped that its late-season success would push it over the top.

"I think we all knew it could have gone either way, but we were disappointed because we felt we were a much better team at the end of season," said Harper, citing Harvard's three early one-goal losses.

"We were getting on top of the mental side and wanting to win. If we had made it, I think we could have kept going farther. It's disappointing that we didn't get to do it."

The rejected bid represents a lost opportunity for redemption as well, since the Crimson would have been able to replay some of the teams which it lost to earlier in the year.

Harvard does have some positives to carry into the offseason, having won its last four games, including an encouraging 10-9 win in its final against Cornell.

"We finished on a great note," Harper said.
