When the Regional Awards Committee announced the winners of their annual tennis awards this week, it read more like a Crimson roster.
After cruising to a perfect 9-0 league record en route to a No. 1 seed at the Regional Tournament this season, the Harvard men's tennis team proved that there was no one better around.
The committee took notice.
After 22 years at the helm, Coach Dave Fish was awarded his first ever Regional ITA Coach of the Year selection. Fish owns a 354-143 record as a head coach and has led the Crimson to all of its NCAA appearances in program history.
Freshman sensation James Blake walked away with the Rookie of the Year nod after a season of dominance. Ranked as high as third in the nation in singles play, Blake posted a 18-2 dual and 34-4 overall record this year. Paired with his older brother, Tom, in doubles, the Blake brothers are currently the ninth best team in the country.
In his final season before heading off to the pro tour, Tom Blake could not be forgotten by the Regional Committee. The two-time All-American and last year's EITA Player of the Year was once again honored as the best player in the region. In addition, Blake was selected as the regional nominee for the ITA John Van Nostrand Memorial Award. Seven other candidates from around the country received the same accolades. The national winner will be announced during the latter stages of the NCAA tournament.
