The Harvard men's tennis team continued to impress yesterday with a 4-0 victory over Davidson College at the National Blue-Gray Classic in Montgomery, Ala. It moves on to face No. 20 Alabama in today's tournament quarterfinals.
Harvard (9-2), seeded third out of 16 teams at the Classic, received doubles victories by the No. 1 team of co-captain Tom Blake and junior Kunj Majmudar and the No. 3 team of freshman Scott Clark and junior Elliot Weiss to earn its first point. Blake and Majmudar dominated their opponents to post an 8-0 victory, while Clark and Weiss won in a closer match, 8-6.
With the doubles point won, the Crimson needed three points in singles to earn the victory. Senior co-captain Philip Tseng cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 victory over sophomore Alex Okulski to earn a point at the No. 4 spot.
Not to be outdone, Clark and Majmudar each rolled in their matches as well; Clark toppled freshman Whit Hansen at the No. 5 spot, 6-1, 6-1, and Majmudar added a straight-set victory of his own at No. 3, 6-1, 6-2 over senior Jeff Tonidandei.
Singles Nos. 1 and 2 were suspended in progress because Harvard won before the conclusion of the matches.
The Harvard team is currently ranked 14th in the nation but has a chance to make some noise at the Classic.
