She may not be headed for Capitol Hill, but she shares a well-deserved place in the record books with a former Senator. On Jan. 26, women's basketball co-captain and Chester, S.C. native Allison Feaster '98 assured her place in sports history by becoming the all time Ivy League women's scoring leader. And on Jan. 31, she became the second Ivy League player and first woman to score 2,000 points and grab 1,000 rebounds in her career. Only former New York Knicks Forward and New Jersey Senator Bill Bradley has achieved the same feat.

"I don't know if I'm in the category of someone like Bill Bradley, but it's a definite honor," said Feaster, who scored 36 points in the record-setting game against Yale. The All-American has led her team to a 16-3 (6-1 Ivy) record thus far this season. As her rebounding record indicates, Feaster's accomplishments extend beyond mere shooting ability to real team play. "There is this intangible communication [between Feaster and her teammates], and we do feed off of her," says Coach Kathy Delaney-Smith.

Perhaps the best by-product of Feaster's tremendous individual success has been the attention she has brought to her very strong team. Feaster's record-setting moments may have packed the stands, but the great play of all the team members has kept the fans coming back. We hope that the campus-wide interest in women's sports continues even after Allison Feaster goes on to her next challenge, perhaps in the Women's National Basketball Association. She has shown us all that there are only glass backboards--and no glass ceilings--in Harvard sports.
