Council Not Guilty

While the staff's criticisms of the Undergraduate Council are often well-reasoned critiques worthy of consideration, their attack on the council for the errors and nullification of the past week's election cannot be explained as anything other than a complete and total pot-shot.

Yes, the council was responsible for the election. But the failure of the computer voting system, though unfortunate and inconvenient, cannot be attributed to some greater failure in the council itself.

The staff's decision to use this accident as an opportunity to lambast the council reveals that the staff's true concerns are not with the facility of voting but rather with attacking the council at every opportunity.

If the staff wishes to improve the council's effectiveness, a wiser move would be to show patience with the council and to encourage those students who have dedicated their efforts toward trying to make the council work for all of us--not to kick them when they're down.
