E. Gordon Gee will assume the 17th presidency of Brown University at the beginning of 1998, Brown officials announced last month.
Most recently president of Ohio State University, Gee replaces Vartan Gregorian, the eight-year Brown head who was named president-elect of the Carnegie Corporation earlier this year.
Gee's wife, Constance Bumgarner, will join Brown's faculty as an assistant professor of public policy and education.
On Friday, Ohio State officials established a presidential search committee to select Gee's successor.
