Junior softball pitcher Heather Brown has had to play second fiddle for a long time. Too long, in fact.

It's tough when you're on the same staff as Tasha Cupp, your classmate and superhuman lefthanded pitcher. But this past weekend, it was Brown's day to shine.

Before Saturday, Harvard had never beaten Princeton, a team that has owned the Ivy League like a mutual fund. But on that day, in the second game of a doubleheader, Brown shut out the Tigers over five and two-thirds innings of work as her team won, 1-0.

It wasn't a no-hitter by any means; Princeton came very close to scoring in two separate innings. But though Brown bent, she never broke, and that broke the Crimson's losing streak to its southern rivals.
