He has undoubtably been the team MVP throughout the entire season. Now, with his first season over, Harvard freshman goaltender J.R. Prestifilippo has something to show for it.
Voted on by the 12 league coaches, Presto was presented with the Rookie of the Year Trophy last night at the ECAC Tournament banquet at Lake Placid, N.Y.
Not bad for his first year.
"J.R. has been the rock," Harvard coach Ronn Tomassoni said. "He's only a freshman, but he has not played like one. He's been consistent--he's given us the opportunity to win every game, regardless of how we've played."
By the final buzzer of his freshman year, Prestifilippo had compiled 844 saves, breaking the old Harvard record for saves in a single season held by Grant Blair '86.
