In accusing the Curley family of looking for revenge, the staff is making assumptions it cannot be sure are true. The family may be trying to insure--in the only way possible--that Jeffrey's killers will never escape or be freed and then rape and murder another child.
Personally, I support the death penalty only in cases where criminals request it or there is a history of escape and repeated vicious crimes.
