Tasty May Reopen In Former Locale

The Cambridge City Council suggested at a meeting Monday that the Tasty move back into its previous location when Cambridge Savings Bank has finished the reconstruction of the building.

A small diner established in 1916 and also known as "the Heart of Harvard Square," the Tasty had to close down on Nov. 2 when Cambridge Savings Bank began renovating the building.

Tasty owner Peter Haddad, who could not be reached for comment, is currently negotiating with the management of Cambridge Savings Bank.

The bank made a commitment two years ago to negotiate with the Tasty, according to Nelson G. Goddard, senior vice president of the bank's administration.

"I'm optimistic that we'll be able to work with the Tasty to resolve the issue," Goddard said.

City Councillor Michael A. Sullivan said the City Council hoped that the Tasty will move back to Harvard Square.

"We call for the Tasty to be relocated in the building," Sullivan said.
