Last weekend was one of triumph for both the Harvard men's and women's tennis teams.
The men's team, ranked 22nd nationally, won its second consecutive Eastern Intercollegiate Tennis Association championship on Friday at Palmer Dixon Courts by downing Army, 7-0.
It was the 20th EITA championship for the Crimson (19-8 overall, 9-0 EITA), and its 14th outright title.
Harvard continued its stellar play of late by downing Cornell the next day, 6-1, to clinch its 14th undefeated EITA title.
Despite not dressing its regular lineup, the Crimson won five of its six singles matches and all its doubles contest, including a victory by senior co-captain Todd Meringoff and junior Mitty Arnold at the first seed.
Harvard's next action will be in Region I of the NCAA Championships this weekend, which will be held at Harvard's own Palmer Dixon Courts.
The Crimson will play Virginia Tech on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
The women's team (19-5) made history on Friday by recording its first ever NCAA Tournament victory, 5-2, over Virginia Tech in the opening round of the East Regional at Syracuse.
After winning four of six singles matches, the second-seeded Crimson clinched the match when junior Gina Majmudar and senior co-captain Kate Roiter prevailed at first doubles, 6-1, 6-3.
Harvard, making its first tournament appearance since 1988, had an 0-5 all-time record prior to the victory.
After an impressive victory over sixth-seeded Cornell on Saturday, the Crimson's remarkable season came to a close on Sunday when it fell to top-seeded William & Mary, 5-2.
Harvard was hampered by a back injury to freshman star Rosemary She, who did not compete in the tournament prior to the match and was forced to withdraw after one game.
Recording victories for the Crimson were sophomore Gabriela Hricko and Roiter at fourth and fifth singles, respectively.
Harvard ended the season with its winningest spring ever (18-5) and its most wins since 1988, when it finished 20-8.
