Teenager Shot Outside Local Shopping Mall

Police Search for 3 Hispanic Male Suspects

A 19-year-old Somerville resident was shot three times Wednesday outside of the CambridgeSide Galleria shopping mall.

According to Detective Patrick G. Nagle of the Cambridge Police Department, Othega J. Mooney was shot at 7:10 p.m. in a park across the street from the mall.

The investigation is continuing and Cambridge police are currently searching for three Hispanic males who are suspects in the shooting, Nagle said.

There are dozens of potential witnesses to the shooting, as several restaurants, including Houlihan's and Rayz Riverside Cafe, have windows that face the park where Mooney was shot, The Boston Globe reported yesterday.

According to Nagle, Mooney is currently in guarded condition at the Massachusetts General Hospital.

This shooting is not the first felony that the mall has seen in recent years.

In the last three years, there have been several armed robberies at stores including Sears and Belden Jewelers, the Globe reported.

Nagle, however, said the security at the CambridgeSide Galleria is adequate and is similar to that at other shopping malls.

Brattle Street Fire

In other crime news, efforts to combat a fire at the Brattle Street Crate & Barrel furniture store took an unexpected turn Tuesday afternoon when workers discovered some money in a utility entry port.

About $10-$12 in shredded and dye-stained single bills were discovered after workers opened the utility entry port to access electrical wiring connected to the furniture store, according to FBI spokesperson Peter S. Ginieres.

The FBI has been investigating the possibility that the money was stolen from a bank in the area, Ginieres said.

The three-alarm fire began around 2 p.m. in a basement storage room beneath Crate & Barrel. Several Harvard buildings were evacuated.

According to an office manager at the store, a significant amount of the store's merchandise was harmed in the fire, but the exact dollar amount of damages has not yet been determined.
