Stillman Infirmary Reopens After Completing Renovations
The Stillman Infirmary on the fifth floor of University Health Services (UHS) in Holyoke Center reopened this week after a three-month renovation.
The infirmary, which provides 24-hour medical attention to students, had been closed down as part of a long-term, five-phase renovation program at UHS.
The infirmary is now outfitted with better examination rooms and new equipment, according to David S. Rosenthal '59, director of UHS.
Another improvement to the infirmary is a more efficient system of admitting patients, according to Rosenthal.
Patients were previously required to see a receptionist upon entering. Now, they can walk straight into the infirmary without delay.
Other improvements to UHS's fifth floor include a better heating/air conditioning system, and new obstetrics/gynecology and pediatrics stations.
During Stillman Infirmary's three-month renovation period, its staff relocated to Mt. Auburn Hospital.
The infirmary's reopening marks the midway point of the second phase of the UHS renovations. This phase of the project will conclude this summer when mental health services are renovated and moved back to Holyoke Center.

Yale Undergraduates Threaten Tuition Strike to Support Union
Yale's Student Labor Action Coalition (SLAC) will ask students to withhold tuition payments for next fall's semester as a show of support for Yale's striking dining hall workers, SLAC announced yesterday.
SLAC last supported striking workers at Yale by withholding tuition in 1984, when 115 students placed $390,574 in an escrow account.
Yale junior Francis J. Engel, a spokesperson for SLAC, said he is hoping to beat the 1984 total.
The payments will be placed in a third-party escrow fund and will be released when Yale has satisfactorily met the demands of Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees' Locals 34 and 35, the unions currently battling Yale's administration.
Full details of the escrow fund will be offically announced Monday in a press conference in New Haven and will be followed by a student rally in front of Sterling Memorial Library, according to a press release.
"I believe that this is going to be the most important student rally since the beginning of the strike," Engel said.
