Law Students Prepare Parody Show

Students at Harvard Law School are busy preparing for the annual Spring Parody, a humorous look at day-to-day life at the Law School.

This year's production, "Raiders of the Lost Hark," is a play on the popular nickname for the school's student center, Harkness Commons.

According to F. Brandon Baer, a second-year law student who is one of the show's co-producers, the story is about "four students on a quest to find the Outline of the Covenant and the problems they encounter along the way."

The annual musical features parodies of popular songs and performances by Law School professors.

Baer declined to name specific professors appearing in this year's show but promised they would have plenty of cameos.

Baer added that the "Raiders of the Lost Ark" theme was chosen long before the Hasty Pudding Club named Harrison Ford its Man of the Year.

"We actually decided this back in September," Baer said. "[The choice] was mainly based mainly on the fact that the cafeteria in Harkness Commons was being renovated, and it suggested an archaeological theme."

Writers' meetings, which are held in September, are open to the school's entire community, and are advertised in the Law School bulletin, "The Adviser."

Students are responsible for every aspect of this year's performance--from writing the script to doing stage work to actually performing.

Baer said about 60 students are involved in the production of this show, and 45 of them will appear on stage.

"Raiders of the Lost Hark," runs from March 6 to March 9 and will be shown in the Ropes-Gray Room of Pound Hall on the Law School campus.

Tickets are $7 and are available in Harkness Commons on weekdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. or at the door on the night of the performance.
