ATHLETES of the WEEK

The Harvard men's tennis team surprised many last weekend by defeating perennial powerhouses Duke and Southern Alabama at the USTA/ITA Men's Indoor Championship at Louisville, a feat largely due to the effort and versatility of junior Mitty Arnold.

Playing at fourth singles on a familiar indoor surface, Arnold won all three of his matches in staright sets.

On Friday his 7-6, 6-2 victory was crucial to the Crimson's victory over Southern Alabama, a semifinalist in last year's NCAA tournament.

He followed this effort up the next day with an impressive 6-3, 6-4 triumph that helped Harvard defeat the Blue Devils, who were ranked 6th in the nation.

Arnold also played at first doubles with senior Todd Meringoff and enjoyed similar success, recording victories on both days of competition.
