Presidential candidate Justin E.Porter'99 hails from Oklahoma and keeps in touch with his roots through the campus's Oklahoma Club.

A member of the Undergraduate Council, Porter is currently a representative of the council's Campus Life committee, a position he has held since last spring.

Porter says he is most concerned with changing the structure of the council in order to rid it of personal politicking. He proposes changing the structure of the council so that each house elects only one council representative and the Yard only four. Non-elected students who wanted to help out would be more than welcome to assist, he says.

"A reworking of the way the U.C goes about its business is in order; it doesn't have the ear of the administration or the support of the students", Porter says.

Porter says he opposes two issues currently before the council. He voted against an amendment to fund the House Committees with unrestricted block grants and opposes raising the minimum grant percentage given to student groups from 60 to 65 percent.

"I'm against the grant percentages referendum because the referendum binds the council and doesn't allow it the flexibility to change these percentages in the future", he says.

As for the House Committee block grants, Porter says, "I think, they're good, but they ought to remain flexible".

Porter served on the council's Finance Committee during the fall semester of his first year.

Porter also spends time with the Institute of Politics (IOP), Reserved Officer Training Corps (ROTC) and the first year perfect program.
