Nearly 25,000 screaming fans were not the only ones going crazy during The Game on Saturday.
Showing a rare display of excitement, President Neil L. Rudenstine cheered the Harvard team on during its 26-21 victory over Yale.
Rudenstine, who may or may not know the difference between a safety and a safety school, walked on the sidelines toward the end of the second quarter, in front of Harvard's rooting section.
He was spotted by some fans who began clapping for him, and he responded by waving to the crowd. Further energized, the students began cheering louder.
Rudenstine, who continued waving as he walked along the sideline, drew an ecstatic response from the crowd, which stood up and applauded, chanting his affectionate nickname.
"Rudy, Rudy, Rudy," the crowd roared.
Rudenstine continued walking toward where the Harvard players were standing on the sidelines and peered around them to see the action. With Harvard on the twoyard line and the fans cheering for him, Rudenstine turned to the crowd and pointed to the players, urging the crowd to watch the game.
As if energized by the knowledge that Harvard's president was watching, senior tailback Eion Hu barrelled across the goal line for a touchdown. As if.
Rudenstine triple-pumped his right fist in the air as Harvard fans celebrated Hu's touchdown, and sophomore Ryan Korinke kicked the extra point to put Harvard up 21-zip.
The president then left the field, but students spotted him later in The Game chatting in the stands.
All in the line of duty for Harvard's president, we guess.
