Do we really want the Business School giving people Ph.D.s?
As the staff acknowledges, the graduate schools already have the power to give out doctoral degrees in their fields. The graduate schools are professional schools, and they should give degrees which reflect what they are about.
The Faculty of Arts and Sciences is where Harvard's liberal education lies, and it should have sole responsibility for conferring the Ph.D., which is, after all, a doctorate of philosophy.
