While Dennis Conner and company might be struggling with the Kiwis out in California, the Harvard sailing teams have achieved major accomplishments.
Both the co-ed and the women's teams have qualified for the National Team Racing Championships, based on their strong performances over the season.
The co-ed team will compete at Long Beach, Calif. from May 30 to June 1. Harvard qualified for the event for the first time in many years by placing second out of nine teams in the New England Team Championships this past weekend, held at the Yale College Yacht Club in Branford, Conn.
The Crimson's only two losses against New England competition this season came at the hands of Tufts, which is the only other New England school to make it to the nationals. Twelve teams in all go to the nationals, which is a round-robin tournament in which the team with the best cumulative score (in terms of the lowest finish) taking the title.
The women's team will be headed to San Diego for the national racing championships May 26-28. Sixteen schools qualified for that event.
