Wainwright Bank Robbed, Suspect Still At Large
A man robbed the 104 Mt. Auburn St. branch of the Wainwright Bank and Trust Co. yesterday afternoon, fleeing the scene with about $700 in cash, according to the Cambridge Police.
At around 2:30 p.m., the unidentified suspect entered the bank and handed bank employee Arlene Daniel a note stating that he had a gun and that he wanted cash in hundred dollar bills without dye packs, police reports say. The suspect did not show any weapon.
Daniel gave the suspect about $700 in cash. When she went to get more money, she was interrupted by another teller. The suspect then fled from the bank in an unknown direction, police said.
Police reports describe the suspect as a light-skinned Black male, between 35 and 45 years of age and wearing a beret, a white turtleneck shirt and a three-fourth length dark coat. Police have a warrant for his arrest for unarmed robbery.
Bank officials declined to comment on the robbery. The bank was closed for the day yesterday following the incident.

Leahy, Suspect in Square Shoot-Out, Held Without Bail
Keith Leahy, a suspect in last week's shoot-out at Harvard Square, was ordered held without bail in a hearing at the Cambridge District Court Thursday, according to Jill Reilly, spokesperson for the Middlesex District Attorney's office.
At the hearing Police Det. John Fulkerson identified Leahy as one of the men shot during the robbery of a Brinks armored car at Harvard Square on March 1, Reilly said.
William Leahy, the suspect's father, asked that his son be released on bail, promising to turn him over to the court if he learned his son was attempting to jump bond, The Associated Press reported yesterday.
But Cambridge District Court Judge Arthur Sherman said that the evidence against Leahy merited the denial of bail, even though the suspect did not have a criminal record, according to The Associated Press.
Sherman said that the armed robber showed reckless disregard for the safety of the public by engaging in a shoot-out during the busy lunch time at a crowded Harvard Square, the wire service reported.
Leahy is being held at the Cambridge city jail, according to Reilly.
A second suspect, Brendan Smith, 24, remains hospitalized in stable condition, an official at Beth Israel Hospital said yesterday. Reilly said Smith will be arraigned when "he's ready."
Richard Brennan of South Boston, a Wells Fargo guard who is believed to be the third suspect, is still wanted for questioning in the case, sources have said.
The Associated Press also reported that Middlesex County District Attorney Tom Reilly turned over the investigation into the incident to federal prosecutors Thursday.
U.S. Attorney Donald Stern and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are now investigating the robbery, because banks are protected by federal law, the Associated Press said. Victor T. Chen
