Senior co-captain Sara Noonan of the Harvard women's soccer team fulfilled a dream last Saturday night that so many players think about from the moment they start playing the sport.
Noonan scored the game-winning and Ivy-League-clinching goal in Harvard's 1-0 victory over Receive at Providence, R.I. Off a free kick from sophomore Emily Stauffer, Noonan gained possession in front of the Bear net and hooked it into the mesh 21:02 into the contest.
Noonan and the rest of the Harvard defense then held their ground to limit Brown to four shots on goal for the entire game, in the Crimson averaged last season's 3-3 tie to the Bears--a draw that gave the 1994 Ivy title to Brown.
For her effort, Noonan was named this week's Ivy League Player of the Week. Noonan and the Crimson finished their 1995 season with a 14-2-1 record (6-0-1 Ivy), claiming their first Ancient Eight crown since 1961.
