The Phillips Brooks House Association (PBHA) board of directors voted last night to create a subcommittee that will examine the possibility of greater independence from the University.

"Right now Phillips Brooks House Association, Incorporated has its own non-profit corporate status, but at the same time we do utilize many resources the University provides us," PBHA President Vincent Pan '95-'96 said Last night. "We'll talk about... what types of things Harvard is currently providing us and what are the pros and cons of being affiliated with the University," he said.

Pan said the newly formed committee, which will include members of the PBHA board of directors and cabinet, will begin meeting next week.

Pan would not rule out the possibility that the committee will recommend full autonomy for the public service organization. He said the board has not set a target date for the committee's report.

"A big part of this is to make sure this organization is being driven by student interests," Pan said. "We'd like to be able to set the agenda for what happens in the future, rather than having it set upon us."
