An unidentified man partial to 40 regular jackets stole more than $10,000 worth of merchandise from the Harvard Square men's wear retailer Stonestreets at around 3 a.m. Tuesday, according to police and the store's owner.
After the robbery, the man managed to elude police on an 80-miles-per-hour chase through the narrow alleys of Cambridge and Boston. Police described him as a 5'10" Black male with a medium build.
The suspect was believed to be unarmed.
The man broke in by throwing a brick through the glass door of the store. Leaving the cash register untouched, he quickly gathered up four suits, 10 sport coats and a leather jacket before the police arrived at the 1276 Massachusetts Ave. location.
The store's owner, Ken Perry, said the majority of jackets taken were size 40 regular.
The suspect, who was driving a stolen car, was chased down Massachusetts Avenue, Plympton St. and along local sidewalks. He narrowly missed The Crimson building.
Citing the danger of the high-speed chase, Boston police ended the chase in the Roxbury/Mission Hill district.
