Although his season was ended by injury, senior shortstop Mike Giardi has been named the Ivy League's baseball player of the year.
Giardi, a Mather House resident out of Salem, Mass., was one of two unanimous selections to the All-Ivy League team. Yale's junior southpaw Dan Lock, who took home the award as top pitcher in the Ancient Eight, was the other.
Giardi, who was also named first team All-Ivy last season, played only 26 games this year because of a broken hand. He led the league in hitting with a.435 average.
In addition, Harvard's junior catcher, Bryan Brissette of Harrisville, R.I., was named to the All-Ivy second team.
Sophomore rightfielder Mark Levy of Stoughton, Mass., garnered an honorable mention.
Yale, the three-time defending league champion, placed six players on the first team: Lock, pitcher Adam Doherty, first baseman Bryan Hobbs, third sacker Gary Butterworth and outfielders Dave Feuerstein and Dan Thompson.
