Berman Named New Assoc. Finance Dean

Ann Berman has been named associate dean of finance for the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS), according to a report in this week's Harvard Gazette.

Berman's duties will include managing all financial affairs for FAS, including the College and the Graduate School for Arts and Sciences.

Berman, a certified public accountant, has served as a strategic planning consultant to top finance officials at Radcliffe since 1992. Working for the Faculty, she will oversee an annual budget of more than $500 million.

Berman says one of her major challenges will be working to reduce FAS's operating budget deficit.

"We have to balance the pressure to increase spending on such items as technology with the need to bring the budget in balance," Berman said in a University statement.

Berman replaces Candace R. Corvey, who was named associate vice president of human resources this summer.

Berman has held the position of acting dean for finance since October.

Dean of the Faculty Jeremy R. Knowles and Administrative Dean Nancy L. Maull praised Berman's qualifications and eagerness for the position.

"We are very fortunate indeed to have attracted Ann to this position," Knowles and Maull wrote in a statement.

"We and others who have worked with her have already found her to be a wonderful colleague," the statement read.
